The Atlas SonoLabTM is a high performance, automated ultrasound system for sonocrystallization, sonomilling and sonochemistry, developed in conjunction with Syrris. The proprietary ultrasound technology with novel transducer based design, allows reproducible control of crystallization processes, enabling selectivity of parameters such as particle size, shape, crystallinity and polymorphism.
The Atlas SonoLab benefits:
- Selective and significant improvement in polymorph, particle size and particle shape morphology
- Advanced control of nucleation and growth rate yielding very narrow particle size distribution
- Sophisticated control of crystallization resulting in reduced impurities and trapped solvents leading to higher product purity
- Automated control of process parameters and nucleation leading to batch to batch consistency
- Optimised crystallization experiments carried out at laboratory scale can be scaled to pilot plant processes and manufacturing using the ProsonitronTM range of products
- Improved formulation consistency, stability and performance of final drug products
- Removing the need for using seed crystals circumvents issues with consistency and access to the reactor
- No tools required to work with the intuitive "drag and drop" Atlas software and real time data graphed during process
- Excellent temperature control via sophisticated PID temperature control and accurate sensor feedback results in accurate process performance
- With the advanced automation of the Atlas PC software, the system can introduce ultrasound at accurate temperature points within and around the metastable zone
- The Atlas Software allows integration of the Syrris Turbidity Probe or FBRM characterization
The Atlas SonoLab system is based on Syrris' Atlas Potassium System for jacketed vessels with the addition of the Prosonix proprietary ultrasonic flow cell, generator and pump. The powerful Atlas Software allows full control of all the important parameters required for sonocrystallization, sonomilling and sonochemistry applications:
Crystallization
Automated metastable zone width studies can be carried out with the aim of defining sonocrystallization based optimisation of product recovery, crystal size and purity. This complete control of crystallization can be carried out using pulsed or continuous insonation.
Scale-up
The scale-up philosophy behind SonoLab means batch-to-batch repeatability can be easily established leading seamlessly to pilot plant and beyond using ProsonitronTM
Polymorphism
The impact of different solvents, mixtures, concentrations and temperatures on polymorph control is well documented. Sonocrystallization with SonoLab facilitates selective polymorph control without seeding
Milling Studies
Ultrasound assisted wet-milling of organic crystals can be beneficial and helps avoid conventional (mechanical) milling, which can be important for low melting solids or ‘soft' / ‘elastic' crystals.
