Inhalation | Combination Therapy | Market Opportunity The market for respiratory medicines is large and growing. It is estimated the current total annual market for Asthma/COPD is worth more than $24bn, and is claimed to have growth potential of 30% over the next ten years. Importantly there is significant opportunity for directly substitutable and branded generics, as over 75% of current products will go off-patent within the next five years. However, because of the technical complexity in meeting the standards set for approvable generics, there is very little competition for Prosonix at this time, or in the foreseeable future and as a result its innovative technology solutions and products will be highly prized. Industry expects price erosion in the respiratory market to be significantly less than classically observed with oral products when generics are introduced. Forecasts suggest that "generic" prices could be as high as 80% of the Originator brand. In addition, the number of competitors entering the market is expected to be very limited due to the innate technical complexity associated with both gaining regulatory approval and manufacturing inhaled products. Further important opportunities exist for Prosonix in emerging markets such as the BRIC countries where the combination of engineered particles in simple, low cost, and possibly disposable devices could revolutionise the delivery of long-term respiratory therapy. Other respiratory diseases that may benefit from improved inhaled therapies include seasonal and perennial allergies, cystic fibrosis and pulmonary artery hypertension. |
